main task(music magazine) unmanipulated photos

These are the images I've have decided to include in my music magazine.
The images are not intended as I expected them to, the image of Magris seems more eyecatching than the Jessica's but the intention of my magazine is to have a classic element to reflect my publishing house. But I also want a contrast of the modern and classic look which will connot that there is differnt types of RnB (Jessica) and Hip-hop (Magris). I also picked this as the background makes the main image stand out and also the the posture and composition of the character in the images could make the potential layout more engaging.

Main task(music magazine) Profiling Audience

 CRANKED!
Reader: Matt is 21 and is a hardcore RnB and Hip-hop fan and never misses an opportunity
to by CDs on sale anywhere for non-stop tunes.
His swagger is always on point and proudly takes his Mp3 with 8GB everywhere, no matter
what. He owns a library of albums- from method man to Busta Rhymes and seems to
have an interest in Classic RnB such as Alicia Keys, accustomed with a monster
sound system.
He is well clued up about this genre that he attends every gig and Concert all for the sake
of music.

Main task (music magazine) Case study of publishing house

This publishing
company I investigated was the Music Mags, as this was the only one that indicates
that they produce many magazines of different genre that appeals to its target audience.
Unfortunately
the magazines only focus on Jazz, Classic and Modern Rock genres, this disappoints
me as Music Mags should have various types of music such as RnB, but they may not
introduce this as it may disrupt the magazines main interests and company’s
classic element.

The Company
names its magazine title’s after instruments, genres and music associated individuals,
(such as “The Beatles”, “Drum!” and “The
Jazz Times”); these tend to attract a older target market such as 20+, but it is
also suitable for a slightly younger audience as the magazines purpose is to ‘educate
and attract audience with every magazine it publishes. E.g. My Chemical Romance
is a Rock band, and more recent aesthetically than the other magazine issues as
their layout has a modernised look compared to the others which has a classic
element.

The Company
sells a variety of music magazines that can be delivered to multiple stores and
seems more as a supplier than a music store E.g. Waterstones book store. This business
is managed by the music magazine publishers association, (MMPA) and is
distributed by Alfred Music Publishing in the U.S and Canada; the growth of the
business is unknown.

My magazine
genre is about Hip-hop and RnB, this is a good opportunity to debt as this
would be the publisher’s first Hip-Hop and RnB magazine and can also draw publicity
as this genre is very popular with the younger audience which can raise the company’s
financial benefits and also mine.
Hip-hop is a
fast growing genre that can be considered fairly new but the younger generation
is highly influence by this and it can also help reduce the stereotyping of
young people as the magazines purpose is to educate its audience.
There are most
likely queries on the layout of the magazine as the others are classically organized,
so I must include the classic element.

main task (music magazine) Project introduction.

Hello...
My name is Nikeisha Sutton-Richards and I'm studying AS Media studies.
I am currently creating a music magazine for my main task, which includes a double page spread, contents page and frount cover.

To begin with I shall first decide the genre that would be ideally suitable for my magazine and then research and evaluate the key components that produces and makes a magazine what it is, which will require alot of research and will give me the oppertunity to inhance my photoshop skills. After deciding the genre, I need to consider the aspects that would make my magazine successful and will help benifit profit wise, this includes:
  1. Overall presentation/ Is it eye catching?
  2. Potential target audience?
  3. Content/ Quality?
  4. Does the images and graphics connote the genre effectivly?

To make my magazine more profitable and sucessful I've decided to aim for the genres that gains more publicity than any other, Hip-hop and Rnb as this is genre in particular is a fast rowing genre that is dominating the minds of potential audiences from the age of 8-25+.

After the planning and reasearch stage is complete I shall produce mock ups to give me an idea of the possible layout and structure of my magazine, and produce good quality images that will create a contempary look that fits the image, which I shall obtain from the studio and ideally out of the studio to give it an urban related feel.

From reflecting on my previous actions, I shall make sure all the pieces are completed to a high consistency before the main deadline before easter.

main task (music magazine) front cover textural analysis

Denotation: A shirtless man with a gun in his hand at the centre of the cover.
Connotations: violence, comic related, music magazine.

Mise en scene:

Costume: the man has no shirt on, which reveals his many tattoos as if it were his clothing, (for example the tattoos on his arms could act as sleeves), the tattoo the skull located at the centre of his chest is the sign of the ‘the punisher’, (crime related marvel comic) which could give the audience a sense that the magazine is featuring the comic.

NVC: the man’s facial expression is serious yet also angry and the use of lighting is used to create shadows capture that, (maybe to show the main character of the comic book’s vengeance)

Lighting: the back ground is low key lighting and the image of the man is high key, so the lighting contrasts each other to make the main image stand out.
Props: the man is carrying a fire arm, which indicates that the magazine is associated with violence.

Setting: the image could be at a studio as the image has no particular background.

Magazine components:

Masthead: the mast head is a red rectangle with the type face ‘XXL’ and is located in the top left hand corner. The type face is in white bold letters which contrasts with red rectangle to make the font stand out. The mast head is basic and recognisable to its potential audiences.
Date line: the date line is located on just above the barcode and was published in “June”; the year is unknown but is fairly recent.

Main image: the main image is the rapper Eminem, the image was taken as a mid shot (camera shot from the waist up) to capture the tattoos including the main one of the skull at the centre of his chest, the image is also large enough to stand out and the rapper is making direct eye contact.

Main cover line: the main cover line is big and bold and is located at the bottom of the page, (where it’s mostly located). It is also the same colour as the mast head to keep it simple and contrasts.

Cover lines: there are no additional cover lines as the magazine is focusing on the main cover line.
Selling line: the selling line is located above the mast head and is short and matches the mast heads meaning.
E.g. “hip hop on a higher level”,” XXL”.

Barcode: located at the bottom right hand corner and it is used for retail purposes.
Website link: it is compulsory that all companies and businesses should have this on their magazines.

main task (music magazine) Double page spread textural analysis

Denotation: Photograph of T.I (rapper) acting like an aeroplane

Connotation: Music, Hip hop and RnB.

Mise on scene:
Costume: His clothing consists of a checked shirt with either a white shirt or vest underneath, he is also wearing grey trousers and several chains which implies that he's dressed casually as the's not wearing the sterotyped trend such as baseball caps, bagg trousers, several long chains and hoddies like may others, this could also imply that he developed his own style but still keeps the 'chain' almost like a trademark that he's rapper.

Props: T.I is holding no props as he's wearing his, (could be) props.

Setting: the background is plain white to focus on the main image,(T.I.). It could also be use because of his non verbal communication as his body language imples that he's acting like an aeroplane and the background could also represent the sky.

Non verbal communication: His facial expression is calm and relaxed as if he's setting an example to his fans, his body language imples that he's acting like an aeroplane to show that he's living large and could realate to the main story.

Lighting: The lighting used is high key but the image has some dark tones to contast the image with the light tones and background.

The color scheme of the double page spread is white, which is a simple colour to use, to modernise the layout, to make the image stand out.

Main image: the image of T.I. consists of a full double page but the tip of this hand bleeds through the other page, this shows that the DPS is directly about him.

Subject name: the subject name is called "SUMMER T.I.ME" as it stands out and orientated by the main subject T.I.

By-line: matches the colour scheme and is located under the subject name.

Headline: is in a specialised font that also matches the colour scheme and is located on the top right hand corner.

Strap-line: starp-line is in yellow circle with white text which it gives the summer feel, this is made to tell or give a brief on what the subject matter is about.

Text columns: they layout displays this below the by-line and like an artical always dislayed as columns.

Cover lines: there are large quantities of cover lines that have been distributed around the image to make it the centre of attraction on the page. It also has different colours to contrast the image (white and yellow) to make the presentation attractive to the particular target audience.
The main cover line: its not to huge but it is readable and doesn’t take as much space, this leaver room for all the other cover lines.
Bar code: this code bar is used for retail purposes.

Induction: movie poster textual analysis.

Denotation: A poster of a man holding a whip.
Connection: action, adventure, advertisement

Mise en- scene:
Costume: the male/ character is wearing an explorer costume, which consists of a khaki shirt and dirty trousers; this suggests that the genre of the movie is action and adventure.

Props: this person is in position of a whip and a gun, which resemble violence and implies that the film will contain violence and that and that there, could be an enemy or adversary in the characters way.

Lighting: the lighting used in this poster is a contrast of high and low key lighting which contrasts and makes the character stand out.

Setting: the background of the image is unusual and implies that the film’s quite scary but the type face at the bottom adds a cartoon element to the poster, which gives the audience or potential viewers a different impression that it's an action adventure.

Induction: Re-creation of a Movie Magazine front Cover

This is my first time using Photoshop, and i think it went pretty well.

what i found easy was applying the words but difficicult to put the layers the right place correctly.
