Main task (music magazine) Case study of publishing house

This publishing
company I investigated was the Music Mags, as this was the only one that indicates
that they produce many magazines of different genre that appeals to its target audience.
Unfortunately
the magazines only focus on Jazz, Classic and Modern Rock genres, this disappoints
me as Music Mags should have various types of music such as RnB, but they may not
introduce this as it may disrupt the magazines main interests and company’s
classic element.

The Company
names its magazine title’s after instruments, genres and music associated individuals,
(such as “The Beatles”, “Drum!” and “The
Jazz Times”); these tend to attract a older target market such as 20+, but it is
also suitable for a slightly younger audience as the magazines purpose is to ‘educate
and attract audience with every magazine it publishes. E.g. My Chemical Romance
is a Rock band, and more recent aesthetically than the other magazine issues as
their layout has a modernised look compared to the others which has a classic
element.

The Company
sells a variety of music magazines that can be delivered to multiple stores and
seems more as a supplier than a music store E.g. Waterstones book store. This business
is managed by the music magazine publishers association, (MMPA) and is
distributed by Alfred Music Publishing in the U.S and Canada; the growth of the
business is unknown.

My magazine
genre is about Hip-hop and RnB, this is a good opportunity to debt as this
would be the publisher’s first Hip-Hop and RnB magazine and can also draw publicity
as this genre is very popular with the younger audience which can raise the company’s
financial benefits and also mine.
Hip-hop is a
fast growing genre that can be considered fairly new but the younger generation
is highly influence by this and it can also help reduce the stereotyping of
young people as the magazines purpose is to educate its audience.
There are most
likely queries on the layout of the magazine as the others are classically organized,
so I must include the classic element.
